In a surprising crossover event that defies traditional predictions, the game developer has unveiled an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Adventure Uncovered

According to the authorized release, "A strange confrontation leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where whispers of banned rituals and fearsome metamorphoses reverberate through the obscurity." The narrative presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a secret sect.

The adventure centers on "peculiar tests and a fearsome adversary" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Metamorphoses

The preview highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, likely the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Bonus Features

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana in addition to multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique weapons
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Update

This patch also adds the game's third free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap characteristic techniques: Naoe introduces a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a new environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Collaborations

This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime series. The series previously showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that obviously nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
